All of the family went swimming yesterday and Vic noticed that although our son Oscar is not a particularly competent swimmer he is extremely confident in the pool. Oscar can’t swim a great distance, but he is happy for me to throw him about in the deep end, or to jump off floats and dive down to collect things from the bottom of the pool. He knows he can always get his head out of the water to get a breath some way or other, even if he has to spring up from the bottom of the deep end using his legs. He knows that he can swim far enough to get to the side from any point in the pool if he needs a rest. In his local pool Oscar feels in control and he feels safe, so he can enjoy the water and play with confidence.
